Last year, trick-or-treating in downtown Sanger had a two-hour window on a Friday after school. This year it's part of a festival that runs from morning to late afternoon. The Sanger Area Chamber of Commerce is holding Sellabration on Saturday, October 31, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Chamber has folded Safe Spook trick-or-treating into the festival program, and the event now goes by "Sanger Sellabration / Safe Spook."
Halloween in Sanger now happens in daylight, in the middle of a street fair, and wraps up before dinner. If you have kids in costume, a dog in a costume, or both, plan the day around a few set times and leave the evening open.
Last year, these were two events six days apart
In 2025, the two events were a week apart and had different feels. Sellabration filled downtown on Saturday, October 25, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Six days later, the City of Sanger's calendar listed Sanger Safe Spook on Friday, October 31, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Downtown Park, 312 N. 5th Street. In 2024, Sellabration ran on Saturday, October 26, hosted by the Chamber.
| 2025 | 2026 | |
|---|---|---|
| Sellabration | Sat., Oct. 25, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. | Sat., Oct. 31, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. |
| Safe Spook | Fri., Oct. 31, 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., Downtown Park | Part of Sellabration, downtown |
| Time of day | Evening, after school | Daytime, during festival hours |
The 2026 timing comes straight from the calendar. With Halloween on a Saturday, the Chamber put both events on the same day, and Sanger News reported in August that "Safe Spook Trick-or-Treating" is on the 2026 Sellabration lineup, downtown from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. As of mid-October, the city's online calendar has no separate evening Safe Spook listing for 2026. If one shows up, it will be posted on the City of Sanger calendar.
One costume, eight hours
The full program reads like a Halloween party set inside a street fair. The Chamber's event listing includes vendors, a fun zone, stage performances, the Little Miss & Mr. Sanger pageant, a pizza eating contest, Safe Spook trick-or-treating, a costume contest, a cake walk, a wiener dog race, a dog costume contest, a cornhole tournament, a pumpkin patch, and festival food. The DFW Craft Shows listing adds a petting zoo and a kids' zone, and expects 101 to 200 vendors.
In past years, Halloween here meant a quick costume change after school and a two-hour loop around Downtown Park. This year the costume goes on in the morning and could stay on until the booths close. The Chamber hasn't posted separate hours for trick-or-treating within the 9-to-5 festival, but the costume contest, cake walk, and pumpkin patch are all part of the same program, so expect a day of walking around instead of a two-hour sprint. Comfortable shoes under the costume will matter more than usual.
The festival is centered in Historic Downtown Sanger at Bolivar and 5th Streets, according to the Chamber. The Chamber says that historically, more than 6,000 people have attended. The DFW Craft Shows listing puts yearly attendance above 7,000. Either way, that's a lot of people on a few downtown blocks, and this year a good share of them will be small and in costume.
Only a few things run on a set schedule
Most of the day is open-ended, and the Chamber's Sellabration page says details for the 2026 event will be posted as they become available. Individual contest times, the stage lineup, and street closures haven't been posted yet. Here are the times that are set:
- 9 a.m. Sellabration opens downtown. One Chamber event listing shows an 8 a.m. start in its date block, so check sangertexas.com the week of the festival.
- 10 a.m. Car show registration opens at the Church of Christ parking lot, 400 Locust Street.
- 1:30 p.m. Car show registration closes.
- 4 p.m. Car show awards.
- 5 p.m. Sellabration closes.
The car show is a block off the main festival streets, so it's an easy break when the crowd around the booths gets thick. The 4 p.m. awards are the last set time before the festival closes at 5. If the trick-or-treaters are holding up, you can walk over to Locust Street for the awards before heading to dinner.
The DFW Craft Shows listing says parking is free. Parking locations haven't been posted, so plan to walk a few blocks if you arrive after the morning rush.
The dogs get a Halloween this year too
Most Halloween events leave pets at home. The Sellabration program includes a dog costume contest and a wiener dog race. The Chamber's Sellabration page has its own graphic promoting the Weiner Dog Race. DFW Craft Shows lists the festival as pet friendly.
Because the event runs in daylight, a costumed dog can join the kids for the whole day. Last year's 4:30 Friday slot didn't leave much room for that. A daytime street fair with thousands of people is a lot for some dogs, though, so your dog's comfort in a crowd should decide how long it stays.
After 5, dinner is still downtown
When Safe Spook ended at 6:30 on a Friday, the evening was mostly over. This year the booths close at 5, and Halloween night is still ahead. The places to eat afterward are a short walk from the festival streets.
Papa D's is at 311 N. 4th Street, Suite 100, a block from Bolivar. Its website lists dinner, bar and happy hour, and lunch and brunch menus.
Uptown Rail calls itself a downtown brewery and gathering spot with food and fresh beer. The food side is pizza and hand-scooped ice cream. The creamery is open 12:30 to 9 p.m. Friday through Sunday, so after-festival ice cream is an option. Those are the creamery's hours, so check the brewery's Saturday-evening hours on its own.
The Quiet Pour is at 212 Bolivar Street, Suite 100. It describes itself as small-batch coffee, curated books, bring-your-own wine, and elevated dry cocktails. The Sanger Economic Development Corporation announced its opening for March 14 as a bookstore and coffee shop by day and a lounge by night. Its website still shows a "Coming Soon" label, so check its hours before you walk over.
These same rooms took over this month when the weather turned. Sanger News reported that rain moved every performance of the October 3 Old Bolivar Songwriters Festival indoors, to Uptown Rail Brewery, Windmill Saloon, Riley's Room Event Studio, and Papa D's. If October 31 turns wet, these are the downtown spots that already know how to handle a festival crowd.
The same EDC report noted that Velocity Physical Therapy moved to 308 Bolivar Street and Everythaang moved to 306 Bolivar Street. If you haven't walked Bolivar since last year's Sellabration, a few storefronts have changed.
Next on the downtown calendar: Christmas on the Square
After Halloween, downtown's next big day is five weeks later. The City of Sanger's Christmas on the Square, with the tree lighting and holiday parade, is set for Saturday, December 5, 2026, from 2 to 8 p.m. in Downtown Sanger, with Santa and Mrs. Claus and live entertainment. Parade entries are due by November 22, and parade lineup starts at 5 p.m. at Stephen Baker Field. If your family, business, or club wants a float, that deadline falls only three weeks after Sellabration.
I grew up in Sanger, and a Saturday on Bolivar Street still feels like home to me. If you're downtown on the 31st and you've been thinking about land, a few acres for animals, or a rural place outside of town, I'd be glad to talk it through over a coffee once the festival winds down.
